Hi Guys,
Here is a question for those considering an iPad purchase? WiFi or WiFi + 3G?
What are your thoughts on this?
-Ed
We talk about this very topic in Episode 118, but for me the decision boils down to the question of where you plan to use it. I see myself using it most of the time under a Wi-Fi umbrella, so its not worth the extra $130+ for the 3G radio, plus the $15 – $30 per month for the data plan.
Add to this the fact that AT&T has not done a stellar job with data plans on the iPhone, so I don’t have a lot of faith in their ability to handle the additional traffic the iPad is going to produce.
Finally, I can always go with plan B and pick up a phone that has Wi-Fi and 3G on Verizon and use some software to make the phone act like a Wi-Fi access point meaning that I use Verizon’s 3G service with the iPad. For phones without WiFi (like my Blackberry Storm) there is always the Cradelepoint: http://www.cradlepoint.com/products/phs300-personal-wifi-hotspot-3g4g
